+++ HZB NEUTRONS - LAST CALL FOR PROPOSALS +++
Dear Neutron Users,
In view of the imminent shut-down of the Berlin Research Reactor BER II at the end of 2019, you are kindly invited
- for the last time –
to submit your proposals for neutron experiments for round 2019_1 with beamtime to be allocated between April 2019 and December 2019.
DEADLINE is 1 Sep 2019, 23.59 CET
(see our online Call for Proposals ).
HZB is especially encouraging continuation proposals in order to give our users the chance to complete ongoing projects.
Information about the submission procedure including a guide you can find in our web pages Beamtime/Access and in the GATE Guidelines for Proposal Submission.
Please, submit your proposals via our user office tool GATE.
Applicants should discuss their proposal(s) with the instrument scientists prior to submission, and also be aware that the HZB Scientific Selection Panel will take the results from previous experiments (reports, publications) into consideration when reviewing the proposals as far as they have been entered into the system.
The HZB User Coordination Neutrons is looking forward to receiving your proposals
and to answering your questions.
If possible, please, forward this information to colleagues we are not able to reach.
Thanking you for your continuing interest in our facility,
With kind regards,
Norbert Stüßer - HZB Beamtime Manager Neutrons
Heike Gast - HZB User Office Neutrons

+++ ALSO IMPORTANT for HZB NEUTRON USERS +++
-->> The next meeting of the HZB Scientific Selection Panel will be held in late October 2018.
-->> If you plan to do experiments in our Experimental Hall (E-Instruments), it is
advisable to check the status of your clearance for free access in good time.
-->> Travel Support
HZB has set a budget to assist our BER II users with their travel expenses. Scientists affiliated to German non-university research institutions cannot be supported. Funding arrangements have to be cleared with the beamtime manager prior to organising the trip.
-->> Beamtime Fees
The use of the BER II / BESSY II facilities is free-of charge for experimentalists affiliated to universities or research institutions, however, a prerequisite is the readiness to publish the scientific results within a reasonable period of time, giving proper mention to the HZB.
For proprietary industrial research, beamtime fees are collected.
-->> Beamtime at instruments not in user service might be available on request from the supervising departments, please, contact the instrument scientists.
-->> New HZB CoreLabs available for all users:
HZB offers off-line tools in the field of X-ray diffraction and microscopy as well as instruments and methods for the synthesis and the investigation of new energy materials.
Our X-ray CoreLab is equipped with several modernized diffractometers, suitable for thin-film analysis and the analysis of powder samples and single crystals.
Latest-generation electron microscopes, scanning electron and ion microscopes are available at the CoreLab CCMS , allowing materials to be characterised and imaged at the nanoscale.
The CoreLab Quantum Materials offers various instruments for sample preparation, phase analysis and single crystal growth as well as equipment to measure a wide range of physical properties as a function of temperature, field and pressure, respectively.
These infrastructures are open for users via booking calendars.
For more information, please, have a look at HZB CoreLabs or contact CoreLabs@helmholtz-berlin.de.
