Call Open for General User Proposals for 2023-B

The 2023-B call for proposals will close on February 22, 2023. This proposal call is for beam time on High Flux Isotope Reactor (HFIR) instruments to be scheduled from August to December 2023. Proposal teams will be notified of their award status by April 26, 2023.

Due to the planned Proton Power Upgrade (PPU) outage starting in August 2023, the Spallation Neutron Source (SNS) will not be accepting proposals for 2023-B.

We have returned to full onsite operations. Awarded PIs on General User proposals are expected to send an experimental team that can effectively run the experiment after initial training. Remote capabilities are available on most instruments to supplement in person participation, and can be requested in proposal submission or after approval. You are highly encouraged to discuss your proposed research with an instrument scientist for feedback before submitting.

Quick Links:

  • Submit your proposal via the Integrated Proposal Tracking System (IPTS)
  • Review resources on How to Submit a Proposal and Writing Your Statement of Research
  • Explore our HFIR instruments by theme or science technique
For more information, see the full proposal call announcement or contact the User Office.
