Call for Proposals at the OPAL Neutron Beam Facility and National Deuteration Facility

Deadline 15 September 2016

ANSTO is now calling for proposals for the following neutron-beam instruments and facilities:

ECHIDNA (high-resolution powder diffractometer)
WOMBAT (high-intensity powder diffractometer)
KOALA (Laue diffractometer)
KOWARI (strain scanner)
TAIPAN (thermal 3-axis spectrometer)
SIKA (cold 3-axis spectrometer)
PELICAN (time-of-flight spectrometer)
QUOKKA (small-angle neutron scattering instrument)
BILBY (time-of-flight small-angle neutron scattering instrument)
KOOKABURRA (ultra-small-angle neutron scattering instrument)
PLATYPUS (neutron reflectometer)
DINGO (neutron radiography, tomography and imaging station)
EMU (high-resolution backscattering spectrometer)

Biological and Chemical Deuteration (at the National Deuteration Facility - NDF)
SAXS (Bruker Small-Angle X-ray Scattering instrument)
X-ray Reflectometer
Physical Properties Measurement System

Proposals should be submitted using our on-line system, https://neutron.ansto.gov.au Deadline: 15 September 2016

For single visit proposals for neutron instruments, select round “2017-1 Neutron”
For 3 year program proposals for neutron instruments, select “2017-1 Neutron Program”
For National Deuteration Facility proposals, select round "2017-1 Deuteration”

Experimental reports and Publications

Users who have carried out experiments on one of the neutron-beam instruments are required to complete an experimental report and to enter relevant publications in the on-line user portal. Both can be submitted on-line under the “Completed Experiments” link on your home page on the portal. Note that the Program Advisory Committee will consider the track records of our users when awarding beamtime.

The application is for beam-time requests and does not include travel or accommodation support. However, ANSTO provides travel support for up to 3 users from AINSE member institutions per proposal. Further details can be found at http://www.ansto.gov.au/ResearchHub/Bragg/Users/TravelSupportScheme/index.htm.

Key dates for each 6-monthly Proposal Round

15 September 2016: Proposal Deadline
September- October: Peer review process
Early November: Program Advisory Committee assess proposals
November-December: Scheduling of first beam-time allocations
