The SAS Commission of the IUCr received three bids to host SAS-2021, from Brazil, Korea, and Taiwan. Those who registered for SAS-2009 (Oxford), SAS-2012 (Sydney), or SAS-2015 (Berlin) were invited to vote. The electronic poll closed at 13:00 CET on December 21, 2016.
